Job Summary

Under general supervision of the Golf Superintendent, the Assistant Golf Superintendent works collaboratively with the entire golf team, assists with all aspects of development and maintenance on the golf course. Helps set maintenance standards to ensure playing conditions and customer experience expectations are met.

Job Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assists with developing and implementing cultural programs and maintenance practices to provide suitable playing conditions for golf course patrons; determining the timing, frequency, and quantity of topdressing, fertilizing, and aerification of turf.
  • Assists with the hiring, training, and supervision of seasonal golf maintenance staff to ensure expectations and procedures are followed; prepares schedules and assigned daily work duties.
  • Monitors course conditions; performs inspections to identify turf issues including disease and insect infestations and determines appropriate course of action.
  • Operates entire golf course equipment and fills in where needed; assists with the repair and servicing of equipment.
  • Assists with constructing agronomic programs; researches and evaluates turf product performance and turf nutritional needs.
  • Maintains and troubleshoots irrigation and drainage systems; assists with the winterization of irrigation system.
  • Maintains communication between clubhouse staff and personnel to ensure golf operations run as efficiently as possible.
  • Calculates, orders, and maintains pesticide inventory to ensure adequate supply for the season.
  • Demonstrates the ability to exemplify, by his/her actions, the County PRIDE philosophy.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Standards for Initial Consideration

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines
Associate?s degree in Turf-grass Science or related field; AND three (3) years of golf course maintenance experience, which includes some leadership or supervisory responsibilities; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Knowledge of:

  • Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
  • Supervisory principles and practices.
  • Irrigation and drainage systems and maintenance.
  • Chemical classes and appropriate uses of turf.
  • Work safety policies, procedures, and practices.
  • OSHA standards and regulations.



Skill in:

  • Operating a variety of tools, equipment and machinery used in golf course maintenance.
  • Identifying turf issues and appropriate resolutions.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving irrigation and drainage systems.
  • Providing effective leadership and direction to assigned staff.
  • Operating a computer to include standard software and some specialized software.
  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
