Scott County Cemetery Search Information

Thirty-nine cemeteries and burial sites in rural Scott County are indexed and can be searched by name, date, cemetery or military service.

Search the Index

In the 1970s and 1980s, a few enterprising Davenport women set out to preserve Scott County History by creating a comprehensive index to the rural cemeteries. They did a lot of walking and braved inclement weather to record the names and dates of Scott County’s past. Originally published in two volumes, the Scott County Cemetery Records are now searchable online from anywhere in the world thanks to the dedicated staff of the Scott County Library System.

With permission from Scharlott (Goettsch) Blevins and Lorraine (Edgman) Duncan, two of the original transcribers, and Donna McNamara, president of the Scott County Iowa Genealogical Society, Scott County Library System staff entered each name and transcription exactly as printed in the two original volumes.

SCLS staff at times assumed last names based on family relations or plot labels, recording them in [brackets]. Any comments by the original transcribers regarding the condition of the stones or the transcription itself were also recorded in [brackets]. Known typos from the original work were noted with [sic]. Plot numbers were taken from the original transcription. These numbers may not correspond with official cemetery plot numbers, particularly for those cemeteries that are still active today.

Several individuals from LeClaire, Iowa provided additional information from obituaries, death notices and other sources for the following cemeteries: Argo Baptist, Faessler, Fairview/McGinnis, Jacks, LeClaire Prairie, Nowlin, Pleasant Valley, Princeton Oakridge, and Salem Lutheran. This information was entered in [brackets] when available. Photos are available for many of the headstones in these cemeteries as well. Glendale Cemetery, in particular, has benefited from additional research by community members and, as a result, entries may appear in slightly different formats from the other cemeteries. Glendale Cemetery did not appear in the print volumes which began this project.

The staff at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Long Grove have been putting their paper burial records into the computer. They have generously shared this information with the library and we will continue to update our index with new burials for that cemetery. Call the church office at 563-285-4596 with questions.

The Blue Grass Cemetery Association can be contacted at 563-381-3711 or [email protected]. Lowell and Sandra Tennyson volunteer to maintain 1800 burials in the 11 acre cemetery.
